The Savings Plan
Participants agree to save at least $10 per week in a restricted savings account for 12 months to two years.
Each account holder can receive up to $2,000 in matched funds to go toward their goal, after successfully completing all program requirements.
Learning to save $10 a week can seem challenging at first, especially in families with limited income. Experience has shown that motivated individuals can and do achieve the goal. Some families develop new spending priorities, while others find temporary part-time work to boost their monthly income.
Financial Education
All participants will take part in at least four financial workshops during a two-year period. These free workshops provide a basic understanding of personal money management, credit repair, savings and investing, loans, homeownership, and more.
The Family Savings Account Program...
...Is a statewide matched savings program for low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Its goal is to encourage financial independence through savings, money management education, and asset accumulation.
Successful account holders can save enough to put a down payment on a home; fund approximately one year’s tuition at a Pennsylvania community college; or provide equity in a business to obtain a micro loan.
Participating Financial Institutions
Program participants may choose to open their savings accounts at one of the following financial institutions:
• Fulton Bank
• Jonestown Bank & Trust Co.
• Lebanon Federal Credit Union
• Northwest Savings Bank
